Allen W. Liller
September 9, 1929 - April 28, 2015

On April 28, 2015, at approximately 7:58 am, the world lost a very unique individual. Allen W. Liller went to be with the Lord leaving behind his wife of 65 years Rosaleen C. Liller.
Known as “Big Al” by his close friends and family, he was preceded in death by his grandson Kevin who was the “apple of his eye.”
Born on September 9, 1929 to Thelma Liller-Coats of Keyser WVa, he is also survived by his four children; daughter Gail Cain and husband Dennis of Pembroke Pines, Florida and her four children Kandi, Christopher, David and Justin. Kandi and her husband Nick have 6 children, Tamra, Leigha, Kayla, Keifer, Myka and Lyrica; son David Liller and his wife Karen Liller Ph.D. and 2 children Matthew and Rebecca of Tampa Florida; son Bruce Liller of Cumberland and his daughter Brooke of Baton Rouge Louisiana and Bruce's companion Dr.Michele Stegmaier of Princeton New Jersey, and daughter Dawn Wilkerson of Houston Texas, her two sons Kyle and Troy and Dawn's fiancée, Mike Chichwak.
Allen served in the Army beginning in 1946 and was stationed in Los Alamos New Mexico between World War II and the Korean conflict. After his basic training in Fort Knox Kentucky, Allen was assigned to supply and detached to the company providing logistical support to the Scientists associated with the Manhattan Project and their efforts to perfect the atom bomb.
Following his service to the country, Allen returned to the area in time to meet his bride and wife of 65 years, Rosaleen.
He eventually settled into a career with the Columbia Gas Company where he remained for 38 years until his retirement as a Corrosion Analyst in 1989. Some of his most memorable accomplishments occurred during the 25 years he served as the Union President of the local AFL-CIO Utility Workers of America with his close friend James Froelich who recently preceded Allen in making the transition to the next life. Now reunited, Allen and Jim are rumored to be planning their next round of negotiations. Allen kept in touch with many of his former colleagues from Columbia Gas. His service to the community was framed by his time as the Booster Club President at Ridgeley High School in the 70's which continued for a while at Frankfort High. He was known for his witty banter, frequent jokes and ability to treat every stranger he encountered as his friend. He valued his relationship with God and his Church and was a former member of Second Baptist Church and most recently a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where he was an avid member of the September Singers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. In lieu of a service, the family asks for prayer and meditation and encourages everyone to reach out to a perfect stranger if just to brighten their day as Allen did every day.
Both a private service and interment at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery is planned for the future. Condolences may be left at www.scarpellifh.com.
