CULBERTSON -- Alvere H. "Butch" Frecks, 79, died Friday, November 29, 2002 at Community Hospital of McCook.

He was born December 7, 1922, to John J. and Etta D. (Meints) Frecks at Culbertson. He grew up on the family farm where he was born. He graduated from rural school and continued farming.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On February 6, 1944, he married Pauline Geier at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson. He has spent his life farming southwest of Culbertson. He retired in December of 1987.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion at Culbertson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Margaret Michel, Erma Michel and Marie Frecks.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline of Culbertson; two daughters, Cheryl and husband, Harvey Steier of Atwood; and Karen and husband, Paul Smolik of Kearney; two sons, Gary Frecks and wife, Pam of Cambridge; and Mark Frecks and wife, Nancy of Culbertson; three brothers, Leonard Frecks and wife, Dorothy of Omaha, Ervin Frecks; and John Frecks and wife, Karen of Longmont, Colorado; one sister, Leona Wudtke of McCook; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were today, 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Bryan Hopfensperger officiating. Interment was at the Culbertson Cemetery at Culbertson.

Memorials may be given in his name. Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
