John Norman Bradley, a son of William Oscar Bradley and the former Miss Laura Grier Moffatt, was born in the bounds of Cedar Springs in Abbeville County, South Carolina on the 16th of March 1889. His family were well known through out the county and his grandfather, Patrick Bradley was instrumental in the construction of a railroad from Greenwood to Augusta with the local stop, Bradley, named for the family.

When young John was about 4, his father was appointed to a position with the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. Here John was raised and educated.

In 1912, John Bradley graduated from Georgetown University Law School and was admitted to the bar in that same year. In October he was one of 147 to be submitted to present cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

During World War I, John served as a Sgt. 1st Class in Co. D, 403 Telegraph Battalion overseas from June 10th 1918 to July 27th 1919; being discharged on August 1st 1919.

John N. Bradley was married to Miss Frances A. O'Neil; with whom he had a daughter, Frances and a son, John Norman, Jr.
