After the war, he attended the University of Montana, where he met his future wife, Marcia MacDonald. They married in 1948 and moved to Washington, D.C. In the early 1950s, he became staff director for the Senate Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, chaired by Sen. James E. Murray of Montana. He moved to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the early 1960s, where he was assistant administrator for legislative affairs. In 1967, he became vice president for government affairs at Western Union, where he remained until he retired in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia; son Brian, his wife, Maura, and their children, Elizabeth and Christopher, of Virginia; daughter Lisa and her husband, Clive Jerram, of Maryland; and brothers Dr. James P. of Missoula; Dr. William M. of Anaconda; and Robert A. of Virginia.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Retz Funeral Home 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2006. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
