Lucille Derrick Mamer 92, of Nampa, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at a local hospital after a short illness.
Lucille was born November 28, 1922 in Brawley, California. Lucille was the third of four children of Henry Lester Derrick and Eunice Bailey Derrick of Campo and Julian, California ranching and mining families. The Derricks ran cattle and horses in the Imperial Valley, and the mountains of Julian and Campo. Lucille graduated from Brawley High School in 1942. During World War II Lucille worked as a riveter in two aircraft factories until her father needed her to help run cattle because all the cowboys had been drafted. Lucille was a partner with her parents running cattle in the Imperial Valley of California during World War II, and on a ranch in Nogales, Arizona, after the War. Lucille was Imperial Valley Roundup rodeo queen in 1946. She married Alfred Mamer January 29th 1949, in Nogales Arizona. Lucille was a Catholic convert in 1949. Lucille and Alfred farmed, raised cattle, pigs and horses in Imperial Valley until 1960. In the Imperial Valley, Lucille was part of the Galloping Gossips, a horse mounted square-dancing drill team. With this association of ladies she appeared in the Rose Parade and the Camp Pendleton Marine Base Rodeo and other rodeos' in California.
Lucille and Alfred moved to Nampa Idaho in 1960. They farmed, had a dairy and fed cattle and raised horses in the Kuna Idaho area. They retired from farming in 1976, but they continued to raise, train and race horses. Lucille enjoyed working at Emmett Livestock, Nampa Livestock, OK Livestock and Treasure Valley Livestock cattle auction yards, training horses and working cattle. Lucille was a 4-H leader. She trained people to ride horses and trained horses for people. Lucille stopped riding horses 10 years ago when her last, favorite, thoroughbred mare Blossom died. She never gave up thinking about horses and ranching.
Lucille is survived by her children Phillip (Liz) Mamer, Beth Mamer, Marc (Dede) Mamer; she was very proud of her grandchildren- Jacob, Duncan, Hannah, Derrick and Samantha. Lucille is survived by two sister in-laws, Delores Mamer of Brawley, California and Donna Derrick of San Diego, California, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alfred, her husband of 58 years, died in 2008. Lucille was also predeceased by her parents, two sisters and a brother.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held 7:00 P.M. Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday April 21, 2015 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nampa.
In lieu of flowers please honor Lucille by donating to Saint Paul's Catholic Church or School in Nampa Idaho. As per her wishes she will be buried next to her husband Alfred at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa, Idaho.
