Rachel Elizabeth Rice, 72 of 22297 County Road 266, Cosby, Andrew County, Missouri, died at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Jt. Joseph, Buchanan County of Peusomonas Pneumonia in which she battle for weeks with Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease that was diagnosed 4 years prior to her death. This was complicated by Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease, Diabetes Mellitus, and Viral Meningitis.

She was born to Thomas George Abels and Rada Leeson. She was reared along with four sisters, Virginia May Abels, Ida Naomi Abels, Florida Lee Abels, Mary Edith Abels, and a brother, William "Billy" Ables on a farm south of Savannah.

She met the love of her life, Pete Edward Rice. They married on August 20, 1947. To this happy union, they had one son, Stanley Rice and a daughter Cindy Rice (Wise)(Felix).

Pete and Rachel Rice lived approximately three miles northeast of Cosby on a 74 acre farm, which was purchased in 1953 from Joseph T. Miller and his wife, Virginia, a sister of Rachel.

She was a dedicated homemaker and had lived in Cosby, Andrew County for more than 20 years.

She was survived by her husband Pete Rice, their son Stanley Rice and his wife Rose Ann Poland Rice, their daughter Cody Rice (Wise)(Felix), 5 grandchildren Derek Edward Rice, Kasey Lynn Rice, Brian Wise, Kelly Wise-Anderson, and Michelle Felix. (As of 4/24/2018 , children and grandchildren contributed by cousin James Mitchell.)

She was buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri. Meherhoffer Family Funeral Care of St. Joseph, Missouri was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
