She graduated from Savannah High School in May 1941 and obtained her teaching diploma and taught at the Barr School which was right next to the Abels family farm.
She married the love of her life, Earl Louis Hostrom in Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 3, 1944. To this happy union, they had two daughters, Patricia A "Patti" Holstrom and Susan Mae "Susie" Holstrom.
She leaves behind one daughter, Susan Mae Walker and one granddaugther, Recbecca Walker as well as a sister, Mary Edith Abels and her brother, William "Billy" Abels.
She was buried next to her beloved Earl and her daughter, Patti, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Washington.
