Ida Maye-Belle Cox

Ida Maye-Belle Cox, 89, of Waldron, formerly of St. Paul, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Waldron Health and Rehab in Waldron.

She was born May 1, 1932, in Shelbyville, the daughter of LeRoy and Thelma(Engle) Aldridge. On June 18, 1950, she married Roy W. Cox, and he preceded her in death on October 4, 2007.

Ida is survived by five daughters, Wendy(John)Dixon, of Shelbyville, Cindy(Donnie) Tucker, of Waldron, Barbara(Michael)Baker, of Massillon, Ohio, Karen(LeRoy)Martin, of Shelbyville, and Sharon(Kent)Cherry, of Waldron; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to Roy, Ida was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Allen, Kaye Aldridge; brothers, Laurel Aldridge, Raye Aldridge and Henry Aldridge; and great-grandson, Christian Anthony F.R. Ash.

Ida graduated in 1950 from Waldron High School.

She was a member of Lewis Creek Baptist Church, where she attended the Agape and Loyal Messenger classes.

Ida formerly worked at the Garment Factory, and retired in 1997 from GE/Wellman, with 35 years of service.

She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, oil painting, making dolls and jewelry boxes, and reading. Ida loved to spend precious time with her family creating wonderful memories.

She also loved animals especially, Perry the Platypus.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2021, at the funeral home, with Pastor Harvey Taylor officiating.

Interment will be at Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery in Shelby County.
