CURTIS -- Hugo Daberkow, 96, of Curtis, died Wednesday (Sept. 19, 2001) at the Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis.

He was born Sept. 7, 1905, at West Point,
to August and Paulina (Heller) Daberkow. He attended school in Ervington, Scribner and Wisner. He worked as a section hand at the age of 15, and on a road gang for four years. He was a truck driver and mechanic for a gravel company, and attended radio mechanic school in Chicago, Ill. He worked as a Carpenter in Omaha, for many years.

In 1935, he married Eleanora Schulz. He worked in Cheyenne, Wyo., on B-17 Bombers until 1945.

In 1946, he married Helen Nelson Tracy at Omaha. She preceded him in death on June 5, 1969. He worked as a carpenter, mechanic and custodian, and also did radio and television repair work and saw sharpening.

He moved to Chapman in 1970, and Curtis in 1995.

He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Central City. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Eleanora and Helen; three brothers, Edward, William and Herman; and one sister, Dorothea.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Graham and husband, Herb of Omaha, and Sandra Spangler and husband, Roland of Curtis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., at the Chapman Cemetery with Mike Hefner officiating. Interment will be at the Chapman Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Blase Wetzel Funeral Home in Curtis.
Memorials may be given in his name.
