John was the son of Sheldon B. Harrison and Angeline Gray Harrison. His mother passed away sometime after the birth of her son Lafayette Harrison.

John married twice during his lifetime. His first wife was Jane Carrie/Cary/Carey who little is known about. She was born in AL. It is unknown where they met. It is thought that she died in 1898 in OK. She had two children with John. They were Pearlie and Clarence B. Harrison both born in Indian Territory, which is now OK. Janie died about 1898 and in 1900 John took the children back to Jackson Co., KY. to live with their grandfather Shelton Harrison and step grandmother Leannah Lake Harrison. At that time the children were about the ages of 2 and 4. In 1910 the children were living with their step uncle Joseph Harrison.

John's son Clarence sustained a head injury while fighting in WWI and a plate was put in his head. It appears that that old injury was the cause of his untimely death. He was working out in his yard and he fell hitting his head causing a reinjury of the area. Doctors were unable to treat him. Clarence married Nannie Witt Cruse/Cruise in 1920. Nannie was previously married to Thomas Cruse in 1909, she had one daughter, was divorced by 1910, and remarried Clarence. Nannie and Clarence had two daughters together before his untimely death.

There is more information on Pearlie (John's daughter) on her memorial, which can be picked up from this memorial.

John went back to Indian Territory (now OK) after leaving his children in KY. and married Eliza Ann DeVore on Mar. 11, 1904 in Poteau, Central District, Indian Territory. They had three children together. They were John B. b. Dec. 16, 1904 in Butler, OH., William Arthur "Art" b. Mar. 15, 1907, and Ethel Sarah b. Jan. 21, 1911 in OK. The marriage did not last much beyond Ethel's birth, because Eliza was remarried on Aug. 27, 1916 in Daisy, Atoka, OK. When she remarried she used the name Mrs. Ann Devore. By that time she had had one more child a son born in 1914. John B. died Oct. 14, 1983 in OK. FAG #19832424, William d. Sept. 20, 1937 FAG #19323514, and Ethel Sarah died May 20, 1986 in CA. FAG #38618917. John B. was linked to an incorrect John Harrison who was buried unk. and at one point had different birth and death dates, but those dates were changed to match the John C. on this memorial. Ethel and Pearlie kept in contact by letter for many years, but they never met.

John was a drifter and lived from place to place depending on where some one would take him in for a time. His reputation was not a good one. It is thought that he originally left KY because there was only coal mining work available where he lived. In 1930 John was living back in KY with his brother Lafayette also known as Fiat, but in 1936 he is pictured with his then grown children from his second wife. I would presume that picture was taken in OK. At some point he returned to KY where he died in 1938.

On John's death certificate Lafayette reported that John's father was Shelton Harrison and mother was Sally Brockman, Sally was John's grandmother. In fact Sally passed away in 1855 three years before John's birth. See attached death certificate. John died without so much as seeing a doctor and the family acted as the undertaker and buriers.

It is thought that John was buried to the right or left of his son Clarence, but there is no proof as yet. This is due to the poor quality of the headstones, which all of the lettering has worn off over time.Eliza Devore she married after John C Harrison to James Kious I have not found a divorce this is my great grandfather I have alot of history and a couple of pictures if you would like them please let me know
