Son of Alexander and Zipporah Hilliard Baker
Grandson of Maurice Baker and Sarah Nicholson
All of Maryland

Married Mary Allender Dec 15, 1777, in Washington County, Maryland. She was the daughter of Nicholas and Jane Day Allender.

This may be the Maurice Baker who served in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Henry Hardman's Return, made Jul 19 1776. Passed by Henry Shryock, July 19th, 1776.
Capt. Henry Hardman's Return was organized out of the north district of Frederick County (later Washington County), Maryland.

This may be the Maurice "Morris" Baker that signed a Fidelity Oath to the State of Maryland in 1778.

"WASHINGTON COUNTY, MARYLAND PATRIOT'S OATH, MARCH COURT, 1778. Transcribed by Jan Grant - Proofed by Mary Dutcher.

A List of Persons in Washington County Who Have Taken the Following Oath Before the Different Magistrates Mentioned Below; and Returned by Them to Washington County Court."

I hereby Certify that the following persons have taken the Oath of Fidelity and Support to the State of Maryland agreeable to the Act Entitled An Act for the better Security to the Government. Given under my hand this 1st Mch., 1778.
The Worshipfull Richard Davis' Returns.
156 Baker, Morris
The afore mentioned Persons took the Oath of Fidelity before me. RICHARD DAVIS."

United States Census:
Residence: 1800 Upper Antietam Hundred, Washington, Maryland
Residence: 1810 Jerusalem and Upper Antietam Hundreds, Washington, Maryland

Maurice Baker had at least one cousin, also named Maurice or Morris Baker, that may also have lived in Washington County Maryland at some point. This is the reason it is hard to be sure which Maurice "Morris" Baker is indicated in these Revolutionary War and Census records. I have been unable to find Revolutionary Pension Records to further make clear which Maurice Baker these records refer to.

Apparently, I was reading, Maryland Revolutionary War records were lost in a fire at some point, and information on Revolutionary Patriot Ancestors had to be reconstructed.

Maurice Bakers mother, Zipporah Hilliard Baker, attended Gunpowder Monthly Meeting in Maryland. Zipporah Hilliard married first Thomas Floyd, Alexander Baker was her second husband, and Henry Maynard her third.

Children of Maurice and Mary Allender Baker:

1. Mary, m. William Charlton Webb Jr.

2. Catherine (evidently NOT the one who married John Ortman in 1804 in Wash. County, MD)

3. Nicholas F., m. Margaret Webb D/O Wm. Charlton Webb Sr.

4. Alexander C., m. Mary Webb D/O John Webb

5. John, m. Catherine Metz ???

6. Richard, m. Mary Webb D/O Wm. Charlton Webb Sr. m2. Anna Chilcote ? in PA

7. Margaret, m. James Murray of Virginia
