It might be hard to believe, but that actually is her name, & she has a brother with a name almost as long! Martha was born to Charles W York (1832-1884 & Susan Elizabeth Tinsley (1829-1893).

When she was a little girl, the family moved from Allen Co, Kentucky, over into Illinois, then across the Ohio River into Crittenden Co, Kentucky, for a short time before going back to settle in Hardin Co, Illinois.

At the age of 16, Martha was married on 2 Sep 1874 in Crittenden Co, Kentucky, as the 2nd wife of Tilford Hugh Miller (1852-1909), & she was the mother of most of Tilford's children. According to the marriage bond, they were suppossed to be married in the Freedom General Baptist Church by Thomas Riley, but for some reason or other that didn't happen, & instead they were married at her father's home.

About 1876 the young family moved from Kentucky, across the Ohio River, & settled in Hardin Co, Illinois.

It has been suggested that perhaps when she died some 22 days after the birth of her 9th child, Martha was buried in the cemetery next to the "Old Philadelphia Church of Christ" at Karber's Ridge, but very little is apparently known about that "Philadelphia" area of the county.

Children of Tilford & Martha include:
~ Charles Pleasant Miller (1875-1917)
~ (child) Miller (1877- )
~ Hiram Britton "H B" Miller (1880-1970)
~ William Hugh Miller (1885-1965) 4th child
~ (child) Miller (1886- )
~ (child) Miller (1888- )
~ Elvia Allon "Ed" Miller (1890-1919)
~ Joseph A Miller (1892-1913)
~ (daughter) Miller (1894- ) 9th child
