When John Anderson Howard was born on December 23, 1829, in Milton, Indiana, his father, John, was 48 and his mother, Sarah (Callaway), was 39. He was married three times, first in 1850 to Louisa Plummer with whom he had one son, Joseph Henry Howard, and one daughter, Mary A Howard (James Cochran). He married Mary Jane Gilbreath in 1878 after Louisa's death and Martha A Crook in 1898 after Jane's death. Martha died in 1905. He died on January 13, 1914, in Frankton, Indiana, having lived a long life of 84 years.
