He was born October 2, 1923, in Hammond. Sal served in the United States Army during WW II in the Philippine Campaign.
He received a Bachelors in Agriculture from Louisiana State University and a Master Degree in Chemistry and Physics. He was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Sal made many contributions to his community, among them as a teacher at Hammond High School.
Surviving is his brother Ferdinand Varisco; Sal's daughters, Patricia Ann Lacy, Tina Marie Traylor; grandchildren, Jessica Ann Bowlin, Benjamin Joseph Ward, Samuel Justin Ward, Lindsey Marie Traylor; great grandchildren, Allie Brooke Ester Bowlin, Nina Scarlett Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
Sal was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Ester Pigott Varisco; his parents Sal and Marguerite Varisco Sr, his brothers Martin Varisco Sr. and Charles Varisco Sr.
Friends will be received Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 9:00 am until Funeral Mass begins at 11:00 am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in the Rose Memorial Park Cemetery Hammond, Louisiana.
