Edward Drew Alexander, age 73 of Amarillo died April 6th, 2015 in Amarillo.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 9th at 10:30 AM at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. The Rev. Robert D. Taliaferro will officiate. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Drew’s exceptional life began in Borger, Texas on September 23, 1941 when he was born to Edward Andrew and Dixie Loriee Duke Alexander. He grew up to be a dynamic individual, living his life full force and driven by his many passions. He was a true Renaissance man, knowledgeable and educated in many diverse areas and became a very successful entrepreneur.
Drew learned by doing, he partnered in NS Griggs Funeral Home, serving families in Amarillo, Borger and Stinnett. Additionally, his many business ventures included Apollo, The Hair Club for Men, Buffalo Southwest Café, which has locations throughout the United States and most recently Saddlebrook Jockey Club here in Amarillo.
Two of Drew’s biggest passions were horses and hunting. He could “horse-talk” for hours and never missed an opportunity to watch them race. He and his family, particularly his brother, traveled on many hunting expeditions, always enjoying time spent together.
On January 1, 1991 he married Melinda in Amarillo; they have shared the past twenty four years together both in successes and a few failures but always together.
A strong, yet loving husband, brother, father and friend, Drew made this world a much more interesting place to live and he will be missed and always remembered.
Drew was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Angela Cates of Jacksonville, FL and Megan Brown of Ft. Worth, TX; his two sons, Drew Alexander II of Dallas, TX and Brennon Brown of Boston, MA; his brother Lynn Alexander and his wife Rovena of Lexington, KY; two grandchildren, Lauren Alexander of Amarillo, TX and Tyler Cates of Jacksonville, FL; and by two nieces, Kasi Sato and Kimberly King both of Lexington, KY
