Virginia Metcalf Magruder was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who died at the age of 89 on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Life Care Center of Ocala with family by her side.
Born to Guy and Edna Metcalf in Yakama, Washington on September 19, 1925, she came from a long line of pioneers who settled in Washington State in the early nineteenth century.
At the age of 15, 'Ginnie' met the love of her life (Albert) while attending services at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove, Florida. During WWII she worked at Western Union Telegraph Company while Al served in the Army Air Corps. At the age of 20, she married Al on May 14, 1946 in Coconut Grove. While living in Coconut Grove raising three daughters one of her passions was raising AKC German Shepherds. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, working part-time in real estate, and dancing the Lindy (Swing) with Al.
In 1975, she and her husband moved to Ocala, Florida and were active in real estate with Ellison Realty until their retirement.
Ginnie was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Ocala and active in the Ocala Pioneer Garden Club. When her health was good she enjoyed working in her garden. With her love of flowers she also enjoyed decorating for each and every holiday. She leaves behind many wonderful memories of entertaining and playing cards with family and friends. Her love of animals lasted a lifetime and she supported many rescue and animal preservation societies.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years (Always and ALL Ways), Albert Stuart Magruder; her parents, Guy and Edna Metcalf; sisters Thelma Bernice Wilkes, Katherine Morton, Margaret, Mary Louise Crouch, Roberta Jean Larkins, her brother Allen Metcalf, and her son-in-law Kenneth Lewis M.D.
She is survived by her three daughters: Patricia Borowsky (George), Ocala; Linda Lewis, Jacksonville; Cynthia Nederlanden (Alan), Pompano Beach; eight grandchildren: Katherine (Tom), Robert (Tiffany), Amy, Matthew (Micah), Patrick, Kelyn, Brianna, and Jessica; along with eight great grandchildren: Rebekah (Andrew), Corey, Leah, Bethany, Alexis, Maria, Kinley, and Ava.
A Memorial Service is planned for August 8, 2015 at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church of Ocala.
