Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Parkinson and Elizabeth Hallam. Elizabeth was born in Thornton near Cleveleys and moved to Bradford, Manchester in around 1854. Her father was a grocer and provision dealer and Elizabeth helped her father in the running of the business. She continued to run the business after his death. Elizabeth married her husband John Duckworth Gratrix Birchall in her 40's, the couple had no children of their own. However after the death of Elizabeth's sister Hannah she became responsible for her niece and nephew. After Elizabeth retired from the grocery trade she moved to Sale.

In affectionate remembrance of Thomas Parkinson of Bradford, who died February 4th 1881 in his 60th Year. “Jesus is my shepherd”.
Also Elizabeth, relict of the late Thomas Parkinson, who died July 27th 1887, aged 66 years. Thy will be done.
