Barbara Marshall was widowed in 1832 when Andrew died in the Ohio River south of their home in Wheeling, Virginia; and within a month of his disappearnace, their home was washed away by the Great Flood of 1832. She remained in Wheeling for a time, but eventually returned to her father's home in Butler, Pennsylvania, where she died at the young age of 29.
Her son Andrew Eaton Marshall was reared by his McQuiston kin. Her son named his first daughter after her: Barbara F. Marshall McCurdy (1849-1909).
