Mrs. Richard Schmitz, 74, a resident of the Villa Loretto, Mount Calvary, died at 1:15 a.m. today at the home.
The former Louisa Bartel was born Jan. 4, 1892, in the Town of Calumet, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Guelig Bartel. She was married to Mr. Schmitz Nov. 21, 1913, in Johnsburg. They farmed near Pipe Village until his retirement in 1948. They moved to Marytown and resided there until one year ago when they moved to the nursing home. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marytown, and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her widower; one son, Dr. Sylvester Schmitz, Mansfield, Pa.; one daughter, Miss Francis Schmitz, Fond du lac; one sister, Mrs. Anna Kalt, Lena; four brothers, Matt, Oshkosh, Hubert, Marytown, John, city , and Joseph, living in California; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, one son, two sisters and one brother.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Richard Schmitz, who died Tuesday, were held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Lisowe Funeral Home, St. Cloud, and 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Marytown, Rev. Edward Murphy officiating.
The Altar and Rosary Society attended the service in a body. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery here.
Pallbearers were Joseph Bartel, Andrew Bartel, Ervin Bartel, Anthony Holzmann, Gilbert Schmitz and Willard Atkinson.
