Melinda Bone Hooker passed away graciously on March 24, 2015. Born December 27, 1940 to Walter J. and Elizabeth Swinford Bone, she was a lifelong resident of Jackson. Visitation will be at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday. The funeral service follows at 10 a.m. at the church, with a family burial service at Edwards Cemetery.

Melinda graduated from Murrah High School and continued her education at Belhaven College. Her career reflected her love for children as she was a kindergarten teacher at St. Andrews Episcopal School, Broadmeadow Kindergarten and Briarwoods Kindergarten. Following retirement from teaching she continued her time with children by working with her dear friends at Olde Tyme Commissary.

She was a cradle Episcopalian until her wedding at Trinity Presbyterian Church in 1962. She then became an active member of Trinity, and served in many capacities through the years including Women of the Church, her circle, missions, children's ministry and as a youth group leader. She cherished her Fellowship Sunday School and circle friends. Melinda's giving spirit was shown through her countless hours of volunteer work in her community, which included the Board of Mississippi Ballet Theater and the IBC. She volunteered for Stewpot Community Services and she and her family served as a foster family for Bethany Christian Services.

She was a member of La Soiree Luncheon Club, Belhaven Class of 1962, and Murrah Class of 1958 Luncheon Club as well as numerous supper clubs and bridge clubs over the years.

Melinda loved life and serving others. She found great joy in attending the various activities of her beloved grandchildren who affectionately called her Nonee. She also enjoyed keeping up with all of her former students. She could and would cook for anyone on a whim. She especially delighted in celebrating holidays with her extended family.

Melinda is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Bernard Hooker and her children Maribeth (Teddy) Gibson, John Hooker, and Allison (Drew) Foxworth, grandchildren Catherine, Mary Paxton and Dalton Gibson and Nathan, Harrison, and Myers Foxworth, her brother Walter (Susan) Bone, and sisters Beverly (Jimmy) Ware and Ginger Mattiace along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, Bethany Christian Services or a charity of your choice.
