Alberta (Sarratt) "Aunt Bert" Blackwood, 76, of Gaffney, SC, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 30, 2006.

A native of Gaffney, she was the wife of Lawrence Blackwood for 59 years and the daughter of the late Albert and Blanche (Harmon) Sarratt.

Retired from banking after 36 years of service, she was a faithful member of Providence Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sisters, Mary Parris of Gaffney, Peggy Horne and Brenda Owensby of Spartanburg; two brothers, Herbert Sarratt and Bill Sarratt of Gaffney; five nephews, Sam Parris of Gaffney, Billy Horne of Walnut Grove, Michael Owensby of Simpsonville, Jeff Sarratt and Charlie Sarratt of Gaffney; five nieces, Elizabeth Hyatt of Greenville, Debbie Hall of Belton, Diane Smith, Martha Lou Blackwood and Sandra Ellis of Gaffney; eight great-nephews, B. J. Rogers of Gaffney, R.J. Parris of Lattimore NC, Kevin Smith of Gaffney, Wyatt Owensby of Simpsonville, Nathan Ellis, Justin Ellis, Adam Sarratt and Allen Sarratt of Gaffney; six great-nieces, Abby Sarratt of Gaffney, Katie Parris of Greenville, Kelly Smalley and Dana Smith of Gaffney, Amy Horne of Walnut Grove and Amy Redmond of TN; and numerous great-great-nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Blackwood and Blanche Bagwell; one nephew, Mark Sarratt and one great-nephew, Buck Rogers.

The family received friends 7:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2006, at Blakely Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ronnie Cox and Dr. Robert Ivey officiating. Interment was at Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were B. J. Rogers, Sam Parris, Charlie Sarratt, Bill Horne, and Michael Owensby.

Honorary Pallbearers were active and inactive deacons of Providence Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC, 29342 or to a charity of ones choice.
