During or soon after the Civil War, they moved to Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana where they were living at the time of the 1870 census.

In 1880, the widow Susan Maria Kennedy Hays was living with her son Abe and family back in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
It is assumed Abraham Hays died in Indiana, but if he perhaps returned to Allegheny County, Pennsylvania before he died, he could be buried at Uniondale Cemetery also.

Susan Hays is thought to have died after 1880 and is buried at Uniondale Cemetery near or by her son Abraham.

Some researchers have confused Abraham Hays, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Hamilton Hays, with another Abraham Hays (born c1805 or 1807) who married Sarah Tuttle, and who died in Terre Haute in either Dec. 17, 1885 or Dec. 17, 1887 (some family trees say died at Franklin, Johnson Co., Indiana). They are shown on the 1880 census at Terre Haute. This Abraham Hays (Findagrave 127413052) was the son of Jacob Hays and Elizabeth Selby.
Indiana State Death Records compiled by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s give two conflicting dates for Abraham Hays' death:
(1) Book H-32 page 134 says Abraham Hays died 17 Dec 1885, age 80, at Terre Haute, Indiana.
(2) Book H-33 page 6 says Abraham Hays died 17 Dec 1887, age 80, at Terre Haute, Indiana
The two references obviously are to the same man but with two different years shown (though same month & day). It is very unlikely one of them is a different Abraham Hays.
