Hannah, Edith, Susanna, Josiah, Mary Ann, Charles, Sarah, Bethenia, Elizabeth and Rosanna, who born the year after the family moved from Henrico County to Amherst County, VA in 1754. Here, they settled the original seat of the Ellis family in that county, known as "Red Hill".
The attached scaled map is a partial view of a topographical "Map of Nelson & Amherst Counties, Va." that has no legend but is very similar to maps prepared in the 1860's by Hotchkiss & Robinson, Topographical Engineers in Staunton, Virginia. The full map which is marked as shown in this view is located in the Library of Congress in Washington, D. C.. The person who later added the red grid marks and approximate locations of roads, towns and landowners (identified by surname only) is unknown. This view was chosen to highlight the areas around Pedlar Mills and the town of Amherst, as well as the location of the Ellis "Red Hill" Estate west of Pedlar Mills.
Note: The original grave of this Ellis family member was located in the Ellis Family Cemetery at Red Hill Plantation in Western Amherst County. In about 1930, Rev. Josiah Richard Ellis had all of the remains of the family members removed and re-interred at Amherst Cemetery.
