The Rev. Monroe Brandy, 87, longtime resident of Hartshorne, died Thursday, March 12, 2015, at a local nursing center. He was born Dec. 15, 1927, in Bonita, Louisiana. After traveling the world he became a minister and preached at churches in Stockton, California, Fort Smith, Arkansas, McAlester and was called to pastor at Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Hartshorne in September 1996. He was elected vice moderator under the leadership of moderator, the Rev. K.D. Davis. He became the moderator of Central Wayland District after the death of the Rev. K.D. Davis and served from 2004 to 2007. He was well known for his uplifting personality. Survivors include his Mount Nebo Church family and other friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Callie Brandy, and a son. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Hartshorne with the Rev. Jerry Jennings, the Rev. Marvin Thompson, the Rev. Anthony Washington and the Rev. Donald Brown officiating. Burial will be at Elm Park Cemetery in Hartshorne. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne. Pallbearers will be Phillip Ockletree Sr., Louis Smitherman, Ben Moye, Clint Walker, Phillip Ockletree Jr., Ivan Evans Jr., John Walker and Tremayne Parison Jr.
