Mavis was born Aug. 18, 1930 in Stephen, MN where she was raised and graduated high school. She received a B.S. Masters in Education from Moorhead State University. She was married Dec. 3, 1949 to Garfield Becklund. Mavis & Garfield farmed in Stephen for 40 years. She taught a 1 room country school in Karlstad, MN. They then moved to Deer River, MN where she taught for over 40 years. Mavis was deeply religious and active in her church. She was a member of the Lions Club- Leaderdog, ADK, and volunteered for various community organizations. Her family & friends were a key importance to her. Her hobbies were flower gardening, fishing, and later in years traveling.

Preceded by husband Garfield Becklund, son Bruce Becklund, parents Otto & Agnes Anderson, brother Wendell Anderson.

Survived by sons Boyd (Katie) Becklund, Bradley (Joan) Backlund; daughter Deborah (James) Wollenhaupt; grandchildren Kristina (Ken) Tetreault, Kenneth Wollenhaupt, Kyle (Amber) Wollenhaupt, Kimberly Wollenhaupt, six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Ruth Becklund; brother Dean Anderson; sister Evelyn Schmidt.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. Service: Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, 11 a.m. United Methodist Church Deer River, MN with lunch to follow.
