Theodore "Ted" R. Messamer, Jr., 78, of Knoxville, died of respiratory ailment at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center on Dec. 5, 1995. Services will be held Dec. 8 at Fisher Funeral Home in Adel at 1 p.m., with burial in Panther Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Adel.

Mr. Messamer was born near Barnum, Minn., on Sept. 11, 1917 to Theodore Messamer, Sr., and Beulah Messamer. He lived at the Knoxville Veterans Home since 1987, residing in Adel most of his life before that. He owned a livestock and grain trucking business. During World War II, he served in the United States Army. In addition, he belonged to the Chariton Veterans of Foreign Wars post.

Mr. Messamer is survived by three daughters, Linda Wilson of Melbourne, Vickie Wells of St. Anthony and Debbie Katchner of Des Moines. Also surviving are eight siblings, Hazel Price of Dallas Center, Lois Robinson of Panora, Lucille Diddy of Meservey, Jessie Blomquist of Stuart, Mary Ellen Cunningham of Perry, Tim and Phil Messamer, both of Adel and Charles Messamer of Danville, Ind. Other survivors include eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Messamer was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Fern Mitchell; one brother, Lawrence Messamer, two infant brothers and one infant sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to Panther Creek Church of the Brethren.
