Clara Margaret Bachman was born on December 20, 1871 in West Salem, Edwards Co., Ill. to German immigrant parents, Friedrich "Fred" and Christiana “Christal” G. (Michael) Bachman. Fred was a farmer and sometime coal dealer who immigrated to Illinois in 1853 from the village of Ittlingen in Baden. Christal was from a Moravian family that immigrated to Illinois from Altgersdorf in Saxony in 1849. Fred, Christal and their family were sincerely religious.

Clara met a Free Methodist minister named Eddy “Edgar” Thomas Corson when he came to West Salem and preached at a revival camp. They were married on September 14, 1893. Eddy was a minister for the Wabash Conference and traveled sixteen circuits over his career, moving every two years. Some of the circuits included West Salem, Ill., Hoopeston, Ill., Urbana, Ill., Attica, Ind., Frankfurt, Ind., Tennyson, Ind., Bellmont, Ind., and Vincennes, Ind. Clara and Eddy were to have seven children together, who were all born in different places.

Due to failing health, Eddy left the ministry in September 1918. They had recently moved to Greenville, Ill. and there they remained for the rest of their lives. Clara joined the Greenville church and took an active role by teaching Sunday school, joining the missionary society and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU).

At the time of her death, Clara was survived by three sons: Harrell L. Corson of Baldwin Park, Calif., Howard B. Corson of Louisville, Ky., Newell L. Corson of Kankakee, Ill.; four daughters (all of Greenville, Ill.): Mrs. B. F. Battleson, Mrs. C.D. Palmer Sr., Mrs. W. F. Marshall, and Mrs. Denny Donnell; 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Henry Bachman of Mason City, Iowa, John Bachman of Vancouver, Wash., and Fred Bachman of West Salem, Ill.; three sisters: Mrs. Joe Hocking of Mt. Morrison, Colo., Mrs. Eldon Bottenberg of Arcola, Ill., and Mrs. W. O. Cook of Gallatin, Ill.
