Edgar Thomas "Eddy" Corson was born Thomas Eddy Corson. From childhood, he was known to intimates as Eddy. When he became a minister, he changed the order of his names, as E.T. Corson sounded better than T.E. Corson (ministers were known by their initials). The name on his death certificate is Eddy Thomas Corson.

Thomas Eddy Corson was born on December 10, 1859 outside of Rising Sun, Ohio Co., Ind. to James Kittle and Mary Jane (Spore) Corson. He was the second son of a large family. Eddy’s father James died when he was 10. Sometime in his late teenage years, Eddy moved to Staunton Twp. in Champaign Co., Ill. where he lived with his maternal grandparents William and Eunice Spore on their farm for some time. From there he moved to Kansas in the 1880s. While in Kansas, Eddy received news of his mother Mary Jane suffering from a serious illness. When she was spared, Eddy promised his life to the Lord and became a Christian.

Eddy rejoined his family in Urbana, joined the Free Methodist Church, and entered the ministry in September 1891. He was a minister for the Wabash Conference and traveled sixteen circuits over his career, moving every two years. Some of the circuits included West Salem, Ill., Hoopeston, Ill., Urbana, Ill., Attica, Ind., Frankfurt, Ind., Tennyson, Ind., Bellmont, Ind., and Vincennes, Ind. While in West Salem, Eddy met Miss Clara Margaret Bachman, whom he married on September 14, 1893. Eddy and Clara were to have seven children together, who were all born in different places.

Due to failing health, Eddy left the ministry in September 1918. He had recently moved to Greenville, Ill. and there he remained for the rest of his life. Eddy worked odd jobs from time to time to earn extra money and continued to preach at revivals and family events.

Per his obituary, at the time of his death, he was survived by his wife; three sons: Harrell L. Corson of Monrovia, Calif., Howard B. Corson of Louisville, Ky., and Newell L. Corson of Peoria, Ill.; four daughters: Mrs. B. F. Battleson of Danville, Ill., Mrs. C. D. Palmer of Greenville, Ill., Mrs. Wm Marshall of Greenville, Ill., and Mrs. Denny Donnell of Greenville, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; three brothers: Will Corson of Metropolis, Ill., George E. Corson of Modesto, Calif., and Bailey Corson of Urbana, Ill.; two sisters: Mrs. E. G. Yearsley of Urbana, Ill. and Mrs. Howard Waters of Urbana, Ill.; and a half-brother Harry Collins of San Francisco, Calif.
