Kjell Askildt died suddenly on Friday March 6th, 2015 at the age of 72. Kjell was born on July 8th, 1943 along with identical twin brother, Kaare, in Oslo, Norway. Kjell and his family lived on a peninsula called Bygdoy in Oslo.

Kjell Askildt was a retired sheriff. He was married twice and Kjell had six children. Askildt began as temporary police constable in Oslo in May 1965. He was in dog patrol and criminal investigation department, and served as sheriff in Geilo; he retired in 2000. His great passion has been dogs that can be used in the service and in the civilian part of rescue. Thus, he was for many years chairman of the Association Norwegian Lavine Dogs, which has now changed its name to Norwegian rescue dogs. He was appointed as an honorary member of Norwegian rescue dogs in 1996.


Kjell Askildt was one of NRHs most prolific and prominent members. He stood in central organization construction of the modern NRH that we see today. Kjell came into FNL 70s and was involved in developing the organization from being a single Board of Oslo with executives around the local communities throughout the country, to a modern organization with districts across Norway. Kjell was a competent instructor and judge, and downloaded a lot of work in developing approval programs. Many will remember Kjell for his initiative and organization of the major international symposium at Geilo in 1987: The Dog in the Service of Humanity, which contributed greatly to put NRH on the international map. Kjell was instructor and judge both lavine- and ettersøkningsdelen.Han Kjell has been chairman of the Executive Board and has contributed his expertise and integrity both regionally and locally, as a representative.

Kjell authored a book called about his work and life, and had been collaborating on his brother's second book "a farmer in training."
