William K. "Bill" Hanna, Sr., 87, of Bloomington died on Monday, March 02, 2015 at Meadowwood Healthcare Pavilion. He was born in Monroe County on Sept. 15, 1927, the son of Verne and Delphia (Ison) Hanna and he attended Ellettsville High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the European theater.

After his military service, Bill returned to Bloomington and began his longtime business, William K. Hanna Trucking. Since 1947 his company has provided trucking services to central and southern Indiana from local driveways to Interstate highways and construction sites throughout. His family continues to operate the company to this day.

Along with his business interests, Bill served the Monroe County area as a County Commissioner for 12 years, being President during his tenure. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #446, Monroe Masonic Lodge #22, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine Temple and was a member and Past President of the Stone Belt Shrine Club. He was also a member of American Legion Post #18 in Bloomington.

The most important part of Bill's life was his family. "Papaw" was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and there was not a sporting event that either he did not coach or sponsor. He continued his support later in life by attending and sponsoring numerous teams
for his grandchildren and the community. He and his wife, Wilma, adored their grandchildren and great grandchildren and they were the light of their lives.

His survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and John Mehalechko of Bloomington, two sons and daughters-in-law; William K. Hanna, Jr. and Lorraine and Jeff and Debbie Hanna, all of Bloomington, ten grandchildren; Cory (Chris) Pickett, Lacey (Tyler) McCoy, Michael Mehalechko, Brooke (Andy) Hoffa, Whitney Hanna, Sasha Hanna, Taylor Hanna, Jeffrey Hanna, Joshua Hanna and Ashley Hanna and five great
grandchildren; Claire Hoffa, Lucas Hoffa, Jack Pickett, Matilda Pickett and Emmitt McCoy. Also surviving are one sister, Norma Stevens of Ellettsville and one brother, Albert Hanna of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma (Carmichael) Hanna in 2013, one sister, Helen Carpenter and four brothers; Paul Hanna, Warren Hanna, Gene Hanna and Don Hanna.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. David Weil officiating. Entombment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens with the Monroe County Veterans Honor Guard conducting Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday and 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
