"Pioneer Settler of Ridott Township Expires at Age 86 years"
John Dilly, a pioneer of Ridott township, died last night at 8:00 o'clock at his home, 340 Pleasant Street. Old age and kidney trouble caused his demise. He had been ailing about three months.
Mr. Dilly was born in Wolfstein, Bavaria, Germany, Sept. 21, 1827, and came to America in 1841, settleing in Ridott Township, where he soon became an owner of a farm. He followed the business of faming for many years afterward, being quite successful, and twelve years ago he retied and moved to Freeport to spend the remainder of his life in quiet and comfort.
Decedent was united in marrigae July 16, 1855 to Barbara Mueller, the marriage taking place in Ridott. Mrs. Dilly passed away two years ago the 27th of Feburary last.
Mr. Dilly was a member of the Reformed Church of Silver Creek for many years, but, after moving to Freeport he became identified with the local German Reformed Church, of which the Rev. E. Treager is pastor.
Mr. Dilly was the father of nine children, seven of whom survive him. They are; Louis of Pomery, Iowa, Charles of Allison, Iowa, Albert of Acme, Iowa, George and August of Freeport, Ill., Adam of Ridott, and Mrs. Catherine Guth of Ridott. One sister, Mrs. Joseph Lamm of Freeport also survives.
The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the house, Rev. E. Traeger officiatinga. Burial will be made in Oakland the following are pallbearers, George Kurtz, Sam Schleich, Jacob Mapes, Chris Fischer, Joseph Smith and Danile Moliter.
