Sister Mary of Egypt
Sister Mary of Egypt, a member of the order of the Sisters of Providence who, as Maude Beauchamp, spent part of her childhood in this city died last Saturday at the mother house of the order in Montreal, Can. She was 86 years old.
Sister Mary of Egypt was born in Hancock, daughter of the late Jules and Adeline Beauchamp. Her parents moved to this city when she was a small child, residing here for several years and then moving to Pittsfield. She entered the order in 1887, was trained as a laboratory chemist and served in the ensuing yeras at many hopitals in the United States and Canada. She was retired seven years ago and had since resided at the Mother House.
Sister Mary of Egypt visited frequently in this city and her brother, the late Albert J. Beauchamp, whose death occurred last Novermber, made a trip to Montreal to see her each year. Sister Mary was the last of her parents' family of 10 children.
Amoung the nieces and nephews surviving her are Arthur, Leon, Paul, Valmore and Miss Stella Beauchamp of this city, Lawrence Beauchamp and Mrs. Charles Jordan of Clarksburg and Mrs. Primo Poggi of Williamstown. Paul Beauchamp, Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Poggi returned today to their homes after attending her funeral in Montreal yesterday.
