Hattie was born in Jewett, Texas, and educated in the county schools. In 1934, she married Odis Robinson and later moved to Waco to spend many years as a housekeeper. She raised two children, Nora Mae Robinson and William Powell Robinson, largely as a working single mother.
Hattie worked for many families in Waco. She was hired by Charles and Maida Flood to care for their little boy, Charles "Chuck", and baby girl, Catherine "Cathy". She worked for the family until after the children were grown. Chuck and Catherine both consider, and sometimes claim, Hattie, to be their mother. She was hugely influential in their lives and in the lives of many other children in her care.
Later, Hattie became a Custodian Foreman at Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI), now TSTC. She retired after 10 years and continued her life in Lacy Lakeview, happy to be active, opinionated, and vocal in her community and in the Carver Park Baptist Church.
She was an honorary member of the A. J. Moore High School All School Reunion joining her daughter, Nora Mae's classmates who knew and loved her. Glaucoma took her eyesight, but she was healthy and active until a very old age. Hattie's last years were spent in Ridgecrest Assisted Living and, recently, Ridgecrest Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nora Mae; son, William Powell Robinson; and her grandson, Vince Battles.
Survivors are her great-grandchildren, Joshua C. Battles and Kaylah M. Battles, of Los Angeles, California.
