Janice Enrica Rice Janice, born September 21, 1937, left us on March 21, 2010 to be with her husband, Skip. Janice's life surrounded her family. She had many friends and if you were a friend of hers you truly knew what kind of person she really was. We all thought that four years ago, when we lost our dad, we lost the greatest man you could ever know, but now with mom's passing we find out that she was the glue that kept this family together. Janice moved to Eureka in 1955 with her husband, Skip. She worked a few different jobs in the beginning, the old General Hospital, Woolworth Five & Dime. It wasn't until 1956 that she took on the job she was destined to have, "Mother". For the next 53 years she would have 5 sons, 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. We thought it was funny every time dad would talk about how he raised us snot nosed kids, when we all knew it was mom that took care of us. He was the one that kept us in line. Mom so enjoyed every minute she could have with her grand and great-grandchildren. She was watching great-grandkids three days before she passed. Janice was all about family, but she was also a successful business woman. She took care of the books for Myrtletown Body Shop for 40 years, the business that her and our dad started. They also had Myrtletown Mini Storage, a business where you deal with a lot of different types of people and mom was a friend to them all. Mom was a multitasker. We can remember back at the original shop that was behind the old family house, mom making breakfast in the morning, making lunch for anyone that was working that day and then dinner, besides helping take care of the business. Mom would do this day in and day out. She could do all of this while she was helping raise her family, and this was when you would always see clothes hanging in the back yard, and yeah there were no microwaves either. When mom cooked you could feed an army. She was always concerned about the business' even days before she passed she always wanted to know what was happening. Mom was at all the meetings we would have for the shop and she never had a problem in telling us what we needed to fix. Communication, communication, can't count how many times I heard that one. Janice was a member of the local Soroptimist club and had many friends there. She always encouraged us in supporting the local youth in sports. It's hard to put words in place about her. She had accomplished so much in her life and the gift she had for giving and not asking for any thanks. The real turning point in mom's life came when we lost our dad. It was four years ago we lost him and that really took its toll on her. That loss drained her deeply and we could all see it. We tried as a family to keep her busy. We all took turns with mom, each of us having her a different evening of the week. We would have dinner, lunch, breakfast with her, and boy did she love to have those grandkids around. But as much as we tried, it was always evident at how much she missed our dad. That unconditional love they had for each other; the kind of love that most people will never understand or experience, but now as a family you feel lost. The house that once was the center of our family is now gone. The house that always had birthday, all the holidays, anytime she could get the family together is not there anymore. Mom, there is no measuring how much you will be missed. We know now you are in a better place; no pain and with dad again. We love you and one day we will all be together again. Janice is survived by her son Tim Rice and fianc‚ Kathy Strickland, son Terry and wife Diana Rice, son Tom and wife Laurie Rice, son Todd and wife Shelly Rice, son Tracy and wife Melissa Rice; grandchildren, Stacy and husband Jason Mayhorn, Amy and husband Duane Christian, Kelly Rice and Morgan Strickland, Heather and husband Matt Richards, Rachel and husband Todd Johnson, Josh Rice, Caleb Rice, Sean Rice and fianc‚ Stacy Reed, Hayley Rice, Hunter Rice, Dexter Rice, Travis Rice, Jack Rice, Maximus Rice and Tucker Rice; great-grandchildren, Trista and Kaidee Mayhorn, Jacquie Austin and Dylan Christian, Jacob, Benjamin and Everett Richards, Teralee and Karlee Johnson, Chloe Reed and Mason Rice; sisters-in-law, Marion Jones, Judy Rice, Pauline Rice and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Eunice Galwardi; in-laws, Jack Rice and Gertrude Burton; brother Richard Galwardi; brothers-in-law Merton Rice and Robert "Roper" Rice; and husband of 50 years, Alwyn "Skip" Rice. Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E Street in Eureka on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 1 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be at Sanders Funeral Home on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. followed by encryptment at Sunset Memorial Park, Eureka.
