Timothy Green Allen was the son of William Allen and Rebecca Green (Rebecca was the 1st Mrs. Wm Allen, then 2nd Mrs. Moses Barnett). He served in the War of 1812 and died in the service of his country. His parents and grandparents lived in Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania (formerly Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania).

He was named for his locally famous grandfather, Col. Timothy Green who made a lot of history in Hanover Twp., then Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania.

Timothy and his family are recorded in "Allen of Hanover" in Pennsylvania Genealogies: Chiefly Scotch-Irish and German by Dr. William Henry Egle, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 1896, page 8 of 7-14 (see photo on right). It says "In the war of 1812, he and his cousin Joseph Barnett, enlisted in the Chambersburg Union Volunteers, Capt. McClintock. He was taken ill on the march to Buffalo, New York, and died at an inn, seven miles from that town, on the 12th of December, 1812. In 1867, Isaac Moorhead, of Erie, had his remains removed to Pennsylvania and placed beside those of his mother." Also after the death of his father William Allen, he was sent to school at Lititz and Philadelphia. His mother a long time widow, married Moses Barnett and died 30 Jul 1837.
