Rob "Santa" Figley

ROB FIGLEY
September 15, 1956 ~ September 21, 2013
"Being able to create memories as Santa, for families that were individual and personal, brought him joy."

Rob Figley, 57, of Vancouver, WA passed away on Sept. 21, 2013. He was born on Sept. 15, 1956 in Portland, OR to Dale and Susanne Figley, the youngest of four sons. He attended Hudson's Bay High School Class of 1974.
Rob worked throughout his life within our community to build bridges and unite people to find a way for all to work together. He currently served on the City of Vancouver Parking Commission.
Many throughout Vancouver will remember him best as 'Vancouver's Santa', a title that he was honored to have. For the past 14 seasons, Rob has brought the magic of Christmas into the lives of many families. The past two years he has served as the President of The International Brotherhood of Real Bearded Santa's which has over 1100 members. He loved to travel across our nation meeting and mentoring his Santa brothers.
In 2001, Rob founded All Faith's Church of the Pacific Northwest. A church without walls that was dedicated to helping over 1300 couples get married throughout Washington and Oregon. Rob worked hard on the R-74 campaign that passed last year, bringing marriage equality to all. It was one of his proudest moments to conduct that marriage of the first same-sex couple in Clark County at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 7, 2013.
Rob also became involved with the Clark County Vipers and served on the Board of Directors, our semi-pro football team that helps to ease the transition of adulthood and mentor young men in Clark County to learn how to work together, volunteer within their communities and bring pride to Clark County. We will all remember his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner when the recorded music did not work.
Rob is survived by his wife, Diane; mother, Susanne Figley; son, Collin Figley; step-son, Tim (Theresa) Valdez; two brothers, Dale (Colleen) Figley and Craig Figley; and so many friends, it's impossible to name.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Figley; and brother, Doug Figley.
A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Sat., Sept. 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Please join us at the First Congregational Church, 1220 NE 68th St., Vancouver, WA 98665. All are welcome as we remember and celebrate the life of Rob.
In lieu of flowers, please bring an unwrapped toy or a gift card from a store where toys can be purchased. We will make sure that the magic that Rob brought to many on Christmas will live on.
