Funeral services for Cecil C. Poppy, 59, Milwaukee and a former New London resident, were held Saturday, September 10, at the Wenler Chapel, Milwaukee, with burial in Floral Hill cemetery, New London. The Rev. Christ Caune of St. John Methodist church, officiating. Mr. Poppy died unexpectedly about 6 p.m. Tuesday in Milwaukee, on his way home form work.
Mr. Poppy was born in the town of Mukwa November 25, 1900. He graduated from New London High school, attended Ripon college for two years, and graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Wisconsin in 1925 when he joined the Milwaukee City Engineering department. He married Gladys Dorsey in 1926,
He was a civil engineer for the city of Milwaukee for about 35 years and supervisor for the for the city's southern district. He was a member of the Association of Municipal Engineers and the Association of graduate and Registered of Milwaukee., the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association, Milwaukee 1238 pf the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFL-CIO) and of the engineering department Quarter Century Club. He was also was a member of St. John Methodist church, Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Methodist Dartball League.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Knoch and a son Bruce, all of Milwaukee, a sister, Mrs.
Frances Plowman; a brother, Fred Poppy, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Charley Dorsey all of New London; and three grandchildren
