Landon Hewitt was born in Spartanburg District, SC and grew up hearing his grandfather Jethro O'Shields (Jethro O'Sheal) tells stories of his service in the Revolutionary War. Landon's nickname was Landy and he was a farmer and blacksmith in SC and Georgia.

In an old Bible it stated Landon Hewitt was the son of James Hewitt and Elizabeth O'Sheals Hewitt

This would be Rev. James Hewitt and Elizabeth O'Sheal who was the daughter of Jethro O'Sheal.

PLEASE NOTE: a book with incorrect info adds Cowan to his name to make it Landon Cowan, or Landy Cowan, however, Cowan was not his middle name. That was the surname of his brother-in-law, William Cowan, husband of Lettie Hewitt (sister of Landon).
