William B. “Wheaties” Staub, 82, of Hanover, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at his home. He was the husband of Barbara E. (Conrad) Staub to whom he was married 54 years. Born June 28, 1932 in McSherrystown, he was the son of the late Ignatius M. and Jennie M. (Bair) Staub.

Wheaties retired from Bethlehem Mines Co. after 27 years of service. He was a 1950 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown and served proudly in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover, where he coached the CYO 7th and 8th grade boys basketball for many years. He was a life member of McSherrystown Knights of Columbus and an avid Notre Dame fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children; Laura Nace and her husband Melvin Nace Jr. of Spring Grove, Kelly M. Smith and Patrick I. Staub both of Hanover, four grandchildren; Jana Beatty, Eric Nace, Benjamin Nace, and Hannah Staub, two great-grandchildren; Owen and Andrew Beatty, three sisters; Jane Noel of Hanover, Sr. Vincent Mary Staub SSJ of Philadelphia and Angela McCleaf of McSherrystown. He was preceded in death by eight siblings; Stephen I., Vincent P. , and Robert F. Staub, Anna Noel, Jeune Weller, Charlotte Shetter, Mary Louise Redding and Loretta C. Folmer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Hanover with Rev. Peter E. DiTomasso as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be; Eric and Ben Nace, Paul Smith, John Redding, Michael Beatty and Terry Altland.
