Charles Blevins rites at Sherwood

Charles A. Blevins, 79, Sherwood, died Saturday at his home. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Sherwood. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Sherwood, in the spring.

He was born March 3, 1903, in Hollanding, Ontario, to Edward and Ethel Blevins. As a young child he moved with his family to Carnduff, Saskatchewan, where he was reared. He married Viola Beckedahl Feb. 3, 1927, at Carnduff. In 1929 they moved to the Sherwood area, moving into Sherwood in 1935. He worked as a farm laborer and construction worker in the Sherwood area, and from 1943 to 1944, worked in the shipyards in Vancouver, Wash. He then returned to Sherwood, and in the late 1950s began working with the Renville County Green Thumb program. He worked with the program at Minot Air Force Base, Mouse River Park; rural Tolley, and at Mohall and Sherwood, and later became foreman of the crew before retiring in 1979.

He was a member of the Sherwood Senior Citizens Club.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Lila Rusch, Sherwood, Diane Coates, West Monroe, La.; sons, Duane, Rolla, Ralph, Williston; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Blevins, in Nova Scotia, Dolena Raistrick, Kelowna, British Columbia; brothers, Bert, Kelowna, Harold, Star City, Sask., Frank, Medicine Hat, Alberta, Leslie, Edmonton, Alta. halfbrother, Gordon Blevins, Outlook, Sask.; half sister, Irene Saar, Gansboro, Sask.
