Elgin Manuel Puaimoku Duarte, 85, of Kailua, a retired Army sergeant major, died at home. He was born in Hakalau, Hawaii.

He is survived by wife Joyce C. Hunter; sons Matthew Duarte and Scott and Kenneth Lawton; daughter Cindy Lwin; sisters Elaine Hara and Ethel Morimoto; and seven grandchildren.

Committal services: 10 a.m. Friday at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery. Luncheon to follow.
