Lucy M Carlisle was born on 25 May 1917 in Winchester, VA to William Alexandra Carlyle and Beulah Virginia Lake. She was the seventh and last child born to them.

The 1920 census has her name spelled as Lucy M Carlisle. Apparently later in her life, she changed her name and went by Mary Lucy and her last name seems to always be spelled "Carlisle". Her mother passed away in 1918 when Mary Lucy was just over one year old. She appears on the 1920 census living with her father and two of her very young sisters.

Mary Lucy was married to Robert Lemuel Miller. They had a son, Richard Allen and a daughter, Doris. She died on 14 September 1985 at the age of 68 at the Winchester Medical Center of "metastatic carcinoma of breast to liver, lung, bone". Her husband had died back in 1966 at Winchester Memorial Hospital of an "acute myocardial infarction". They are both buried at the Lebanon Church Cemetery in Shenandoah County, Virginia.
