Earnest Eugene "Gene" Ottinger 88, of Hagansport, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living in Sugar Land, Texas. He resided there the last few years to be closer to his children. Gene was born on July 23, 1926 in Kress, Texas to Bob and Lillie Ottinger. He had a great deal of love for his family. Gene was married November 16, 1946 to Mozelle Maxine Crowston Ottinger. Together they raised their children in Texas City, Texas. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was employed by Amoco Chemicals for over 35 years. They were members of Calvary Baptist Church.
Gene was a loving father to his daughter Pat Simon and husband Rocky of Missouri City, Texas and son Don Ottinger and wife Sherry of Santa Fe, Texas. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Darrell. He is also survived by his four grandchildren and their spouses; Matt and Shawna Simon, Cicely Simon, Amanda and Matt Oberg and Jeremy Ottinger . Other surviors are his brother and fishing buddy M. L. Ottinger and his wife, Marjorie of Haslet, Texas and his sister Velma Patton of Rockford, Illinois, His sister-in-law, Gloria Crowston of La Marque, Texas. Gene has many nieces and nephews that survive him. Ollie, his furry, four-legged companion also survives him.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mozelle. His siblings were Mary, Steve Bud, Roy, Robert, J.L., Dorothy and Les.
