SAKAL, Ruth (Lewis), 79, of Millers Lane, Waverly, died 7:35 p.m. Friday in Grant Medical Center, Columbus. She was born September 4, 1918, in the Meadow Run Community, Waverly, to the late Herman A. and Donna (Glenn) Lewis. She was preceded in death on December 23, 1977, by her husband, Louis J. Sakal, whom she married in April of 1949. Surviving are two brothers, Donald K. Lewis, Jasper, and Robert E. Lewis and his wife, Betty, of Waverly; one sister, Donna E. Lewis, Waverly; two nephews, Steven M. Lewis and his wife, Beverly, Waverly, and James A. Lewis and his wife, Jackie, Jasper; two nieces, Rita A. Bevens and her husband, Gordon, Waverly, and Rebecca L. Lewis, Waverly; and four great-nephews. Mrs. Sakal was a veteran of World War II having served in the Woman’s Branch of the Marine Corps. She was a graduate of Rio Grande College and taught school for several years. She was later employed at the Joliet, Illinois Arsenal where she retired. Mrs. Sakal was a member of the United Methodist Church and the French Colony Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Gallipolis, Ohio. Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family in Waverly Evergreen Union Cemetery, with Rev. H. Douglas Shriner officiating. Calling hours will not be observed.
