She married Robert A. Harkness on June 14, 1948, in Hays. He preceded her in death.
She was a 1946 graduate of Victoria High School. She was a homemaker until 1969 and later worked as a bookkeeper for the ALCO store in Hays for 31 years. She was a devoted Catholic and was active in religious organizations. She was a member of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, the Sisters of St. Agnes Association, the Daughters of Isabella, the Secular Franciscan Order, Legion of Mary, Hays Medical Center Auxiliary, Red Cross and Hospice. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Hays, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for the parish.
Survivors include three sons, Robert B. Harkness, Salina, and Charles A. Harkness and wife, Donna, and John R. Harkness, all of Wichita; a daughter, Diane M. Kowal and husband, Allan, Overland Park; a brother, Raymond J. Dreiling and wife, Ann, Wichita; three sisters, Jeannete Pfortmiller and husband, Glenn, Hays, and Eileen Dreiling and Patricia Boswell and husband, Ron, all of Wichita; a sister-in-law, Toni Dreiling, Wichita; and two grandchildren, Dr. Megan (Kowal) Saettele and husband, Timothy, Kansas City, Mo., and Stephanie Kowal, Overland Park.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Melsina Dreiling; a sister, Mildred Schaible; and a brother, Bernard Dreiling.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Friday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays. An Associates of the Sisters of St. Agnes Memorial Service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, an Adorers Rosary will be at 4:30 p.m., a Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 6 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel or the Sisters of St. Agnes Association, Hays, in care of the funeral home.
