Civic Leader Dies

Mrs. Anna Powers McCarthy,
former executive director of the March of Dimes, Onondaga
chapter, and mother of 16th
Ward Supervisor James P. Mc-
Carthy, died yesterday at her
home, 122 Lincoln Pk. Dr.
Mrs. McCarthy, 1961 Post-
Standard Woman of Achievement, was the widow of Syracuse
attorney John V. McCarthy.
She was former president of
the Women's Democratic Club,
former vice president of the
Onondaga Health Association
and a member of the Zonta
Club.
Surviving arc four sons, D.
Kevin, F. Jerome, Patrick M.
and James P. McCarthy:
four daughters, Mrs. Ray Martin of Snyder, Tex. the Misses Nan, Carol and Eleanor McCarty: a
sister Mrs. Katherine Powers.
and 17 grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 a.m.
Wednesday at the J. P. .Burns
& Sons Funeral Home and 8:45
a.m. in St. John the Evangelist
Church, . where a solemn high
requiem Mass will be celebrated.
Burial will be in St. Agnes
Cemetery. Calling hours will be
7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and
7 to' 9 p.m. tomorrow.
