from Mountain Press, May 7, 2013 SEVIERVILLE — Sevier County lost a loyal public servant Saturday when June Parrott died at 69. Parrott was the secretary of the Sevier County Regional Planning Commission from its inception in 1996, and was a familiar face to anyone who’d come into the sheriff’s office for many years, as she was a longtime administrator and eventually became the office manager.
Because of her service on the planning commission, she could truly say her signature was all over Sevier County. “She began serving when the county planning commission was created and served the entire time and was still serving until she passed,” County Planner Jeff Ownby said. “She served as secretary, so basically every plat that’s been reviewed by the commission has her signature on it.”
For the planning staff, and for the developers and others who deal with them, she was a stalwart part of the process. “She was very consistent and always there and always willing to help,” Ownby said. “One of those staples on the process that will be missed tremendously.”
Parrott was a familiar face to people who came to the sheriff’s office. She worked in the lobby for years as an administrator, and eventually became the office manager there.
County Mayor Larry Waters said Monday her service would be missed. “June was a good person. She served this county for many years, and we will all miss her.”
She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Sevierville, and Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Chapter #138.
The Rev. Craig Mintz is among those who will officiate her funeral service. He came to know Parrott before that, when he worked as a reporter for The Mountain Press and would go to the sheriff’s office to get copies of documents.
“She was always kind and helpful, even though I was making more work for her,” he recalled. “When I came to the church, she and her husband Paul (were) such a blessing,” he added. “Their attitude has always been one of encouragement and kindness and love. They’ve always been a reflection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I’ve been privileged to know them.”
