He was born November 12, 1933 in South Amherst, Ohio. Mitt was raised in South Amherst, graduating from South Amherst High School. He had made his home in Lorain for over thirty years.
He proudly served in the United States Army.
Mitt was employed as a carpenter for Rowland Construction for over forty years. He was an avid sports fan. Mitt loved the Browns, Indians, Cavs and OSU. He loved being outdoors, fishing and hunting. Mitt was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lorain.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his sons Don Branscum of Amherst, Rick Branscum (Judy) of Elyria; daughter Linda Nickels (Andrew) of South Amherst; grandchildren Shawn, Megan, Halle, Sara, Kevin and Kelly; two great grandchildren; and his companion of over thirty years Sylvia Best of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Tammi Board in 2011; brothers Charles and Harold; sisters Susan Spivey; Lucy Barnett, Juanita Towne and Pauline Lowe; and by his parents Charles McKinley and Ollie Branscum (nee: Barley).
Friends may call Friday, January 23, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society ; PO Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033.
