Arnold "Arnie" D. Hoffmeyer, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Arnie was born on January 10, 1923 in Evart, MI to parents Ernest and Beatrice (Van Kuren) Hoffmeyer. He proudly served as a medic in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from the paper mill after 38 years. Arnie enjoyed several things like hunting, fishing, bowling, and going to the casino. He was a member of several organizations, including the American Legion Post 411, VFW Post 3256, and the Lakeside Eagle's. He was a well-travelled man, as he and his wife Mary have visited every state in the U.S. except for Hawaii. But most of all, Arnie loved spending time with his grandchildren. Arnie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou (Olson) Hoffmeyer; children: Tom "Dewey" Hoffmeyer, Rick (Alice) Hoffmeyer, Daryl (Valerie) Hoffmeyer, Randy (Kathy Boomer) Hoffmeyer, Terry Hoffmeyer, David (Kris) Hoffmeyer, Penny (Benjamin) Perez, Tony Hoffmeyer, Danny (Amanda) Hoffmeyer; 21 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Bob (Wanda) Hoffmeyer; sister, Donna Machleit; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; brothers: Leon and Lloyd; sisters: Betty, Bonnie, and Fern; granddaughter, Joy South. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Ever Rest Funeral Home & Chapel (1783 E. Keating Ave., Muskegon, MI). The family will receive visitors on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 6:00-8:00pm and again on Saturday, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 am. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
