Sam J. Ely Sr., 83, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at his home.

Memorial service will be 3:30 pm, Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Lincoln Family Funeral Care, 5844 Fremont Street. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Memorials may be directed to his family for a later designation.

Samuel J. Ely Sr. was born February 27, 1931 in Waterville, KS, the son of Samuel and Effie (Crevere) Ely. After graduating from Waterville High, Sam enter the United States Air Force and then service in the Air Nation Guard. Sam married Barbara Ann on December 30, 1953 in Wymore, NE. He farmed in the Hickman area and sold real estate for Country Squire and later Home Real Estate. Sam was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. While his children were growing up he was a 4-H Leader, little league coach and Cub Scout leader. Sam enjoyed woodworking and raising animals.

Sam is survived by his children, Samuel J. Ely Jr. and his wife Peggy, Mary Heberlee, and Joseph O. Ely; seven grandchildren, Adrianne Ely, Amy Ely, Sara Ely, Sally Ely, Shelby Heberlee, Samuel Ely, and Joseph Ely; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
